Sankata Club has entered the semi-finals of the first Mustang Bhadrapur Jhapa Gold Cup held in Bhadrapur, Kathmandu, Jhapa.
Sankata entered the last four by defeating the host Bhadrapur Blazers 1-0.
Sankat’s Manish Dangi’s goal was decisive in the first quarter-final match at Mechi Stadium on Tuesday. He scored in the fifth minute of the game.
Bhadrapur Blazers, who had good support from the audience at home, played an aggressive game but ended up being defeated. Even though the organizers created more than a dozen opportunities throughout the game, they could not make use of them.
The hosts, who were under pressure at the start, had to exit from the quarter-finals after missing a goal. Host Bhadrapur Blazers’ two goals came back after hitting the bar. After the first goal Sankta could not score more goals. After that Sankta played a defensive game.
Tikendrasingh Thapa, the goalkeeper of Church Sankat, was declared the player of the match. He received a cash prize of 20,000. The award is courtesy of Manoj Subba and his family in memory of father Veerhang Limbu.
Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, the general secretary of Bhadrapur Jhapa Gold Cup, the organizer of Wednesday’s quarter-final match between Church Boys and last year’s league winner Machhindra Club, informed.
Dipesh Dhakal, chairman of the organizing committee informed that the winning team of the Gold Cup will get Rs. 13 lakh cash and the runner-up will get Rs. 7 lakh cash.
The player of the match of each match of the tournament will get 20,000 in cash. According to the organizers, 25,000 will be given to the best goalkeeper, top scorer, emerging player, best defender, best midfielder, best forward, first goal scorer of the final match and the coach.
The organizers have informed that the best player of the competition will be given one lakh rupees in cash.
