Kathmandu. Ayush Thapa of Bhrikuti Dojo and Bina Tamang of Arani Secondary School became the best players in the first Mayor’s Cup Uma Open Karate Championship.
Ayush defeated Sohan Tamang of Balwatika Dojo in the men’s under 40 kg weight group final in the two-day tournament held in Kathmandu. Nishan Tamang of Toyokan Wadorio and Roshan Rai of Saraswati Dojo won bronze in this event.
On the women’s side, Vinu won the gold in the under 25 kg weight category by defeating her school’s Jharana Ghatani. Bhrikuti Dojo also became the team champion in the competition. The team won 7 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze. Champion Martial Arts came second with 4 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze while Thaiw Dojo won 3 golds and 2 bronzes and came third.
365 athletes from 30 dojos and some districts participated in the competition held at Manaslu World School in Kathmandu. In both women’s and men’s categories, 8 weight groups, open and spinning, 10 each competed for gold.
