Siddaramaiah will be the new Chief Minister of the Indian state of Karnataka.
Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Khadge and former president Rahul Gandhi have agreed to make 75-year-old Siddaramaiah the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
According to Indian Express, Congress state president DK Shivakumar will become the deputy chief minister.
It is said that the party has promised to give other important positions to Shivkumar, who initially claimed to be the Chief Minister, to convince him to become the Deputy Chief Minister.
It is said that there has been a discussion about making Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar the Chief Minister for half the term, but no decision has been taken.
Shivakumar has played an important role in creating the organization of the Congress and raising financial resources for the party. Siddaramaiah is very popular among the general voters.
It is said that the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will take place on Saturday at 12:30 noon. A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has been called for this at 7 pm today.
In the assembly elections held a week ago, the Congress has won a clear majority in Karnataka. Congress is about to form a single government by winning 136 seats in the 224-member assembly.
