9 shops operating at Tribhuvan International Airport have been taken into action. They were fined 1.5 million by the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection.
The director of the department, Homanath Bhattarai, said that action has been taken against those shops for arbitrarily collecting money from consumers.
Airport Tea Coffee and Confectionery Shop, Karki Multiple Trade and Suppliers, ABP Mart, Om Navadurga Enterprises, New Confectionery Store, Airport Tea Coffee and Confectionery Shop, Hotel Swaning (Coffee and Confectionery), PD Enterprises and Hotel located in the international and domestic terminals will be subject to action. The market monitoring team fined a total of 1.5 million to the business firms who were charging more than the consumer retail price in the shop and selling the goods based on the amount and seriousness of the offense committed by them. The said firms have been instructed not to take any actions that are detrimental to the protection of consumer interests.
